MTV is scrambling to get a hold on this drama.

Per reports, the network canceled its Siesta Key premiere party at Cinebistro in Sarasota, FL amid an animal cruelty controversy linked to one of the show’s cast members. Siesta Key star Alex Kompothecras was hit with criticism recently after a friend of his was featured in a video where a hammerhead shark was dragged to its death.

While Kompothecras was not involved in the shark’s cruel death, three women organized a protest to coincide with the since canceled party. And it wasn’t just some small protest either as the women had 6,000 Facebook users supporting their cause!

Nonetheless, it was death threats made against Alex which inspired MTV to officially pull the plug on the event. The Siesta Key personality’s father, Dr. Gary Kompothecras, confirmed the drama to The Tampa Bay Times as he noted:

“I wouldn’t say that’s the only reason. There are other reasons.”

Okay, sure. While the women behind the Facebook page against Siesta Key are thrilled the party was canceled, they clarified that they’re in no way responsible for the death threats against Kompothecras. Over the weekend, they explained in a new Facebook post:

“We want to make it very clear that we do not support or condone violence in any way. While we understand the frustrations of the community, violence is not the answer, and honestly it just brings you down to their level. We are not affiliated with any protests nor will we be organizing one. Our focus is to continue to provide an internet presence without the threat of violence.”

This is good to know. Still there are PLENTY of people who want to see Siesta Key get canceled, so really, anyone could be responsible for the death threats. We mean, countless Twitter and Instagram users have called for a boycott of the show (below).

There is a new reality show called Siesta Key on @mtv. There is a connection between a cast member and the man who is apart of this video. Both have history of animal cruelty, together. As someone who strives to bring awareness to what is going on, I will not stand by and watch tortuous acts used as entertainment. I hope you will all stand by me and share this post. I stand by you, @animalrevenge. Thank you @geoffmstults for your heart and soul and voice for the voiceless.A post shared by Give Them Lala (@lalakent) on Jul 29, 2017 at 4:22pm PDT
