Morgan Bartley is down over 100 lbs. And she has Instagram to thank!

After suffering some medical problems at a young age — she lost an ovary due to ovarian torsion at just 12 years old — Morgan began gaining weight rapidly, eventually reaching 286 lbs by 18.

But that peak weight was rock bottom for Bartley, who tells People it was time for a change:

“I realized, ‘There’s so many things that I want to do in my life, and I’ll be damned if my weight is the thing that prevents me.'”

Morgan began a weight loss regimen that included a strict low-carb diet and exercise with a personal trainer. To keep herself honest, Morgan charted her entire journey in the public eye in an Instagram account called @MorganLosing — and it’s the only reason she’s winning her battle!

She explains:

“If everyone knew I was trying to lose weight, I’d feel accountable.”

She now has a lot of fans keeping her accountable — but more importantly a lot of voices cheering her on; over the two years she’s had the account, Morgan has amassed over 150,000 followers!

“At times the support I’ve received has been the only thing that’s kept me going.”

Along the way, Morgan also got two surgeries, a vertical-sleeve gastrectomy to reduce her stomach size and a procedure to remove excess skin. She’s planning a full body lift once she hits her goal weight of 145 lbs.

So how close is she? Her last posted weight was down at 175 lbs!

Get it, gurl!

Goooood morning lovelies! It’s #SelfCareSunday and I’m taking a little time to reflect on my journey and the goals I’m still working toward. Before and during photos have always been my favorite way to track my progress. I’m also using the day to do some long overdue cleaning and laundry, meal prep, face mask and planning? These are all little things, but I know my week will go smoother because I’m taking the time to do them. What are your Sunday rituals/routines?! #teamlosingA post shared by Morgan Bartley (@morganlosing) on Jul 30, 2017 at 11:16am PDT

About 2 months into my journey vs now? That was right around the time when my mindset really started to switch gears. I was starting to see results and it was the most empowering feeling to know that I was taking control and doing what it took to transform myself. I obviously wasn’t at goal, I’m still not, but being proactive and able to say that I’m putting in the work – THAT is what I’m most proud of. #teamlosing SW: 286+ lbs CW: 175 lbsA post shared by Morgan Bartley (@morganlosing) on Jun 28, 2017 at 2:00pm PDT

So, I’ve definitely been having a rough patch in my journey lately. I’ve gained some weight and felt under the control of my food addiction and binge eating disorder. I’m not proud of these things, but I refuse to forget where I’ve come from and what I have accomplished. Thank you all for the love and support. I’ll conquer this again. If I can, anyone can. Onward and upward✨ #teamlosingA post shared by Morgan Bartley (@morganlosing) on Jul 12, 2017 at 12:23pm PDT

Remembering her, is remembering the promise I made to never settle. Sometimes looking back is the first step in finding a direction to move forward. #ThrowbackThursday #teamlosingA post shared by Morgan Bartley (@morganlosing) on Jun 22, 2017 at 7:01pm PDT

Cha cha chaaaaaangesssssss?? 286lbs ?? 175lbs • This definitely isn’t my best before and during pic, butttt I’m new to bikinis and feel hella ? so yeah.. • Also, I’ve had something on my mind lately that I think should be said.. There is no BEST way to lose weight, and HEALTH looks different for each individual and their body. People are so quick to voice judgement on those of us who share our journeys online. Don’t get me wrong, advice and constructive information are great, but hateful judgement is just ignorant in my opinion. People are different, bodies are different. A person attempting to better their health in the best way they know how, knowing what THEIR body needs, should not be ridiculed for the way they go about transforming. Harmful behaviors that cause weight loss are a completely separate topic that of course aren’t okay in any way, but that’s beside what I’m trying to get across. My point is basically just to not let other people’s opinions dictate the way you live, in your health and in everything else. . I could very easily be discouraged by people’s judgement on my having had weight loss surgery, or the nit picky critique on the foods I post about eating. But at the end of the day, I do what I have to do for ME, and so far I’m happy with where it’s gotten me. • Educate yourself, commit, and do whachu gotta do boooo??✨ #teamlosingA post shared by Morgan Bartley (@morganlosing) on May 24, 2017 at 2:28pm PDT
