On Wednesday, music legend Whitney Houston — who accidentally drowned in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton in 2012 — would have turned 53.
Earlier that day, Monica posted a touching tribute to the How Will I Know singer on Instagram (see HERE) saying, “Nippy… will forever be the greatest… will forever be missed.”

Hours later, rival Brandy shared her own tribute thanking Houston “for trusting me with the torch.” She wrote:
Lord have mercy on my soul!!! Happy Born Day Whitney. You live on in me… I can feel your Spirit inside of me and all around me. My angel, my friend, my fairy God Mother. I love you forever… thank you for trusting me with the torch!!! I remember every moment with you and I and I will cherish these miraculous moments forever and ever! Although the former friends collaborated on the hit 1998 song The Boy Is Mine, they’ve been feuding for the past two decades.
Once the Internet caught wind of Ray J sister’s homage to Houston, many thought she was trying to steal the attention away from Monica, and make Whitney’s birthday about her.
