And if we didn’t know what we were getting into, you can bet the students of Barberton High School‘s Criminal Science Technology class didn’t either!
In a new viral video, the 14 classmates can be seen allowing their teacher to pepper spray them to experience what it’s like — something all police officers go through as well.

One student can be heard hilariously shouting:
“It feels like a volcano shit in my eyes!”
At least he kept a sense of humor. Mostly they just scream in agony.

Before you ask if the parents were shocked — they actually gave their consent. Everything here was done by the book, per Barberton Superintendent Patricia Cleary, who explained to People:
“Students had an opportunity to voluntarily participate in an activity in which they would be subjected to a small amount of pepper spray for a brief period of time. The activity was conducted by the class instructor, who is a former police chief, and an experienced professional. Added supervision was provided by the school’s resource officer. Students were required to have parental permission and consent in order to participate in the voluntary exercise. The intent of the training is to help the students gain an industry recognized credential in the law and public safety course curriculum that is offered by the Ohio Department of Education.”
Well, it certainly sounds… informative.
We kid, but knowing exactly what these police methods do to people must make it that much harder to do to another person. After all, even non-lethal tactics like this should only be used if absolutely necessary.
