Such a sweet, classy service by the family, friends, and closest loved ones of Princess Diana.

Today would have been the late royal’s 56th birthday, and so in remembrance of her life and the impact it had on so many around her, loved ones held an intimate gathering to honor her on Saturday.

Her sons Prince William and Prince Harry were both in attendance, in addition to Kate Middleton and both Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The service took place at Diana’s resting place on the island of the Oval Lake at Althorp House, and the resting place was rededicated in a special ceremony led by Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Earlier in the week, Kensington Palace had released a statement in advance of the ceremony that took place a few hours ago, too:

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend a private service to re-dedicate the grave of Diana, Princess of Wales at Althorp House on Saturday 1 July. The service, which will fall on what would have been The Princess’s birthday, will be conducted by The Archbishop of Canterbury and attended by her family.”

Beyond that, not much is known from what was clearly a private, meaningful ceremony.

The twentieth anniversary of Diana’s death is coming up on August 31. We can’t believe it’s already been 20 years.
