This hack is going to be bad for business…

In case you hadn’t heard, HBO was recently the victim of the biggest hack in Hollywood history. So far the big hack has resulted in the leaking of a Game of Thrones future episode script and full unaired episodes of Ballers and Room 104.

Now someone claiming to be the hackers — and going by the alias Mr. Smith — has threatened the release of far more, writing to news outlets:

“Yes, we hacked HBO and 1.5 TB of sensitive data and films is in our hands! We release the leak gradually every week (Sunday 12 GMT).

HBO is Falling…….”

Scary stuff for HBO, its employees, even possibly its subscribers. But in a strange turn of events on Friday, someone beat the hackers to it!

Episode four, The Spoils Of War, has appeared online but strangely not from the hackers; it was leaked by an Indian distribution partner called Star India.

HBO’s security was able to identify the source of the leak immediately by the watermark on the video.

A Star India spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that the episode came from them, saying:

“This confirms the compromise of episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 7, earlier this afternoon. We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”

Just a classic, old-fashioned leak.

More GoT may get out, but it also seems possible at this point that the hackers don’t have access to full episodes. Wouldn’t they have proven it by now?

The scary question is, if not Thrones, what else could they be planning on releasing??

Guess we’ll all find out on Sunday morning.
